Hosting

A website without hosting, is obviously no good to man nor beast. However, there are so many hosting options available, someone new to websites could be forgiven for getting a little lost.

If you google "free webspace" you will find over two million results. Unfortunately, the majority of companies offering this free webspace make money by including adverts on your site. You have no control over these adverts.

On choosing your hosting package, two things need to be looked at:

The size of the website and amount of traffic expected. Unless your site is to be huge, 500 mb of webspace is normally plenty. This also allows for any sub-domains you wish to set up at a later stage. The main thing to take into account is traffic.

First Class Websites can assist in selecting webspace, or if preferred, hosting can be arranged for you. The cost of the hosting will be emailed to you before purchase, for your approval.

One further way of saving money. Most people have unused webspace connected to their home internet connection. As long as the site is not too big, and the number of hits to your webspace do not become excessive, most Internet Service Providers pay little attention to your webspace. This would need to be checked with your ISP though.

One disadvantage of home webspace, you end up with a web address similar to http://homepage/your isp/yourusername, which looks less than professional.

Web cloaking using a domain name so that your domain name shows up on the website rather than the isp address. Help with this will be available to you at no extra cost. apart from the cost of the domain name.
